Palm beach
Beaches north of Sydney
Palm Beach or “Palmy” is located at the exclusive end of Sydney’s long strip of northern beaches.
Many rich and famous Australians have built their summer homes here. Fans will also recognize Palm Beach as the mystical village of “Summer Bay”, where the famous TV series “Home and Away” is filmed.
The two-kilometer-long golden beach runs from Barrenjoey Head, at the southern tip of Broken Bay, to the sandstone rocks of Little Head, to the south.
Palm Beach is at the end of a long peninsula, with the ocean on one side and the tranquil waters of Pittwater on the other.
The spectacular Barrenjoey Head looms at the north end of the beach, with the historic Barrenjoey Lighthouse and the houses of the lighthouse keepers at the tip of the Barrenjoey Lighthouse Walk.
This is a popular trail for surfers, runners and joggers.

After a little description of the place, we proceed to our little afternoon tour.
Departing from Sydney via Central Station , which is the main train and transport station in this city, the next destination is Wynard Station . In this place the transfer is made to another means of transport, the bus.

>>> See the entire route here .

To get to Palm Beach the traveler needs to take the L90 that takes him to this destination, and the trip lasts around 1 ½ hours to 2 hours.
The entire route is done crossing the Northen Beaches , as the beaches are known after crossing the famous Harbor Bridge, leaving the city center.
On the path full of natural beauty and suburbs, the landscapes change over time.
We left the city, more precisely, Central Station, and as I mentioned we went to Wynard Station and took the L90 bus at the exit of Wynard Park.

As we woke up a little later on a lazy Sunday, we also went “later” to Palm Beach.
We followed by bus and left around 11:30 am. We arrived at our destination 1 pm and the first stop was for lunch.
We got off at Pittwater Park, the center of Palm Beach, and this technical break went to fish and salad at a local restaurant.
Energies restored, we continue on foot towards the lighthouse.
Google maps in hand and taking advantage of the blue sky day, we took approximately 20 minutes to the beach.
We admire the beautiful view. Some pictures, and soon we were already heading towards the high point of the place: the lighthouse (Barrenjoey Lighthouse) and its famous view.
There is no need to be afraid to find the trail, as everything is well signposted and even without seeing the signs, the ideal is to go following tourists / visitors, as this is a mandatory trail in Palm Beach.
When you reach the starting point of the small trail, you can see that there are two paths: one by the stairs and the other by a “ramp”.

We prefer to go up the “ramp”, even though it is longer, but less tiring, and go down the stairs. Because as they say: “down every saint helps”! lol And so we did!
The whole way up was enough for many photos. Don’t worry, the trail is light and well structured. It has breath to climb and photos!
It took us about 20 minutes to go through it.
Arriving at the lighthouse, we took advantage of the view, and asked to rest and take advantage of Sydney’s winter sun.
A few more photos, a small space of time sitting at the top enjoying the view, and, after the experience, we returned to the beach, only this time by the stairs.
Once again at the foot of the lighthouse, we were already on the beach and very close to the bus stop. We walked a few more minutes and around 5 pm, we continued on our way towards the city center.
In winter it gets dark much earlier, so the ideal is to go to the region in the morning, spend the day and return in the late afternoon, around 4 or 5 am.
It was a quick pass, but we will definitely return in the summer to enjoy the beach better and maybe do other trails nearby.
Tip: if you feel like stretching your legs, Sydney’s Northern Beaches Walk from Barrenjoey to North Head takes four days. It combines the three-day Southern Coastal Walk in Sydney to form the Great Coastal Walk in Sydney , approximately 100 kilometers from Palm Beach to Cronulla, south of Sydney ( source ).
