Where to Eat Cheap in Florence
Eating well is not always synonymous with spending a lot. And when you live in a city for a reasonable time (in my case I lived in Florence – Firenze – for 2 months) you can identify the cheapest and equally delicious places. In the list below we will present some cheap places to eat in Florence.
The food of this country proudly displays simplicity and originality in dishes with a familiar air.
Obviously, if you are looking for comfort and sophistication, do not waste your time looking at our TOP 5, because below I have listed more “simple” places that also reflect the life of this Italian city.
Good food is already a characteristic of Italy, so why not associate it with a value that fits in your pocket?
And for a student like me, lunch was often on a lower budget, so that at the right times I could spend more. And those moments were on the weekends and on walks in the neighboring cities.
Let’s go to a hint of curiosity!
10 typical Italian foods:
- Risotto;
- Bologna Tortellini;

Depois de uma breve introdução, curiosidades e lista de comidas típicas. Vamos ao nosso TOP 5 de locais baratos para comer em Florença, capital da Toscana:
01. Mercato Centrale di Firenze
The Central Market has two floors: the lower floor houses the fruit, seed, sausage, cheese, meat and other stores. and a few more restaurants that are always more affordable for the pocket, and the top floor, a more “refined” place and with a more modern structure, where we find in the vast majority of restaurants.
This market is next to the Mercado de San Lorenzo, which is the street market that sells various non-food products.
Visit the Mercato Centrale di Firenze website for more information: link
02. Osteria Santo Spirito – Piazza Santo Spirito
The square is on the other side of the River Arno, opposite the Duomo square. This is considered one of the most bohemian squares in Florence. It is most frequented at night by the locals.
Every day of the week you will find stands with local crafts, while on weekends there are stands full of vintage objects and food products. On the second Sunday of each month, except in July and August, you will find local and ethnic handicrafts at the “Mercato Arti e Mestieri d’Oltrarno”. The third Sunday of the month is dedicated to Fierucolina di Santo Spirito with a mix of food products, organic producers and local agriculture.
See more information about the location here:: link.
03. I Due Fratellini – Via dei Cimatori
The strength of this place are the paninis and their flavors! The style of the small and charming restaurant, or better, small snack bar, is intimate and suitable for those who are in a hurry to eat, as there are no chairs, tables, nor accommodation for customers. You have to buy the panino and eat it sitting on the sidewalk or you have to take it to eat on the way.

04. All’Antico Vinaio – Via dei Neri
When a crowd lines up in front of a certain place, in a country where they eat well in any corner, that means a lot. This is the case of this place in Florence, which sells the most delicious sandwiches in the city.
Old and a little chaotic, the place is nothing more than a small door that opens onto a salon of a few square meters with hams, salami and wines on the walls. Because it is so small, tradition tells us to eat right there, on the sidewalk stools or sitting in the gutter.

05. Via del Corso
This street is located in the historic center of Florence. From there, everything is done on foot. Walked through it, at one end you find Piazza della Repubblica and going to the end on the other side you reach Piazza Gaetano Salvemini.
It is a route full of life and multiple. There you will find restaurants, shops, history, small hotels, and much more.
There are several styles found on this route, from more expensive locations to simpler “cafeterias”. This was the case of Cucciolo Bar Pasticceria, a restaurant I went to and which I recommend for a faster, better and cheaper meal.

Super Tip!
Want to taste a delicious gelatto ? La Carraia is our super tip. There are two stores in the city of Florence. I visited the Via de’Benci unit, near Piazza Santa Croce.
Order the chocolate mouse gelatto !
Check out more about the gelateria on the official website .
Do you want to cycle through Florence without spending a lot ? Use the service of the Comune de Firenze .
The two “main” stations are: SMN Train Station (right in front of the train station) and in Piazza Ghiberti, in the Sant’Ambrogio Market (opposite the market). More stations appear on the website (four in total): the two I mentioned above, the Piazza Santa Croce station (this one I didn’t find and nobody knew how to inform me) and the FS Campo di Marte station (this one I didn’t go looking for, because it was away from where it was).
Just go to the locations and pay the amounts below. You ride out!
Values: 1 hour: 2.00 euros / 5 hours: 5.00 euros / 24 hours: 10.00 euros (2016 values)
